Two second-round playoff games, two losses.
In New York, the Knicks blew out the Sixers 137-98. The Sixers couldn't make a shot while the Knicks couldn't miss. The Sixers pulled most of their starters in the third quarter. New York now leads the series 1-0. Game 2 in Madison Square Garden is Wednesday night.
In Raleigh, the Flyers got off to a good start, taking an early 2-0 lead over the Hurricanes with goals from Jamie Drysdale and Sean Couturier. After Carolina came back to tie it, you could argue the orange and black outplayed them in overtime, getting off a whopping 15 shots on goal. But in the end, Hurricanes forward Taylor Hall made the shot that counted to give Carolina a 3-2 win and take a commanding 2-0 series lead. Game 3 is Thursday night in South Philly.
At least the Phillies brought us some joy. The team took three of the four games against the Marlins. Bryce Harper was responsible for the lone run of the game, hitting a home run in the third inning. And, Aaron Nola had a stellar night on the mound: six innings, no runs, five hits, no walks. The Phils have won six of their last seven since Don Mattingly took over as interim manager. They return home Tuesday to take on the Athletics.
