About 100 people gathered in Cobbs Creek on Sunday to honor the late Savion Pollard, almost a week after he was shot and killed.
The ceremony was held at the basketball courts near the intersection of 63rd and Webster streets, a nod to Pollard’s love of basketball.
To honor him, mourners bounced basketballs 26 times, once for every year he lived. Then, they lit candles and shared a 26-second moment of silence.
Pollard was killed on April 6 inside a grocery store at 40th and Market streets in University City. Police said an armed man dressed in all black entered the store. Officials said he shot Pollard after a brief argument. Police are still searching for the suspect, who got away on an electric scooter or e-bike.
