Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman says he has no plans to switch parties, despite speculation that he might.
He says he would be “a terrible Republican who still votes overwhelmingly with Democrats.”
However, he writes in a Washington Post op-ed that the Democratic Party “cannot simply be the opposite of whatever President Donald Trump says.”
Fetterman has been the only Democrat to vote on a number of GOP bills and voiced support for the war in Iran.
He says he takes “no pleasure” in voting against his party. He claims Democrats are “catering to the fringe and agitated parts” of their base, whose demands he says have been “heightened after the Gaza war and even more after Trump was elected in 2024.”
