Martha Stewart once called San Marzano tomatoes the "Ferrari" of tomatoes. But some customers say they're getting something more like a Honda.
Customers are suing Italian food distributor Cento Fine Foods, accusing the company of falsely branding its products as containing San Marzano-certified tomatoes.
Cento has dismissed the claims and called the allegations meritless.
San Marzano tomatoes must be grown in the Campania region of Italy. An independent consortium regulates the sale.
Cento has said it voluntarily stopped seeking certification from the consortium in the 2010s over labeling requirements.
