Wichita music fans, rejoice! A local landmark has finally received its rightful recognition. The Cotillion Ballroom, a beloved venue for over six decades, was inducted into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame this past Saturday.

For many, this induction was long overdue. "It's about time," said Richard Leslie, former owner of the Cotillion, echoing the sentiment of many Wichitans [Wichita's Round Mound of Sound finally has made it...].

Opened in 1960, the Cotillion, nicknamed the "Round Mound of Sound" for its distinctive dome-shaped design, has played a pivotal role in Wichita's musical landscape.  The venue has hosted a wide range of performers, from legendary big bands and country stars to modern rockers and hip-hop artists.

But the Cotillion's impact goes beyond just big names.  It's provided a stage for countless local and regional acts, fostering the Wichita music scene.  Unlike many modern arenas, the Cotillion was specifically designed for acoustics, offering an intimate and immersive experience for both performers and audiences.

The Hall of Fame recognized this unique contribution by awarding the Cotillion the Ad Astra Award, which honors institutions that have significantly impacted Kansas music history.

This induction is a well-deserved tribute to a Wichita institution.  The Cotillion Ballroom is more than just a concert hall; it's a place where memories are made and musical history unfolds.
