Vice President-elect Kamala Harris spoke with RADIO.COM and V103’s Big Tigger to discuss how she plans on advocating for the Black community when her term begins in January, and it all begins with the Georgia runoff elections on January 5th.
“2020’s been a rough year, and I know we’re all going to be happy to say goodbye, but 2020 won’t be over until January 5th,” Harris said. “Because that’s the day Georgia votes and that could change the course of our country.”
When asked about managing the expectations of the Biden-Harris ticket with Black America, Harris responded that she knows she has a huge responsibility to the American people, and especially minorities.
“I carry, as I know the president-elect Biden does, a very heavy weight of responsibility to deliver,” she said.
She continued, “I will tell you that we are very purposeful and intentional about saying we are going to pay attention to racial equity.”
And it’s not just the individual that that Biden and Harris are going to be concerned with. It’s all about equity for the duo, making sure that people get the help they need to “catch up.”
“I’m gonna tell you for example… we have a whole piece that’s about a real focus on minority-owned businesses,” Harris said.
Ending the conversation, Harris stressed that she understood the weight she carries in terms of making sure everyone in the country gets a fair shot.
“I and the president-elect carry a very serious and very intentional sets of responsibility about what we need to be in terms of accountability and in terms of relevance to all people but to Black people… and understanding the unique needs and therefore the responsibility,” Harris said.
