Titled Radical Optimism, Dua’s album will be released May 3, including the two already released singles, “Houdini” and “Training Season,” will consists of 11 songs. All of which, according to the official press release, are “infused with the energy of Dua’s hometown, London" and embody “the rawness, honesty, confidence and freedom of ‘90s Britpop."
For the cover art, shot by Tyrone Lebon, Dua is pictured wading in the ocean’s deep waters, just feet away from a shark. Deciding to opt for an intriguing twist on the title, or possibly hitting the nail on the head— interpretations are after all subjective.
“A couple of years ago, a friend introduced me to the term Radical Optimism,” the singer said in the official statement. “It’s a concept that resonated with me, and I became more curious as I started to play with it and weave it into my life.”
“It struck me – the idea of going through chaos gracefully and feeling like you can weather any storm,” she added. “At the same time, I found myself looking through the music history of psychedelia, trip-hop, and Britpop. It has always felt so confidently optimistic to me, and that honesty and attitude is a feeling I took into my recording sessions.”
On the project, Dua worked with Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker; Danny L. Harle, Tobias Jesso Jr., and Caroline Ailin.
Radical Optimism comes four years after she released her sophomore album, 2020’s Future Nostalgia. Which followed her self-titled 2017 debut album, Dua Lipa.
In addition to divulging the new album’s drop date, title and artwork, Dua also disclosed the album’s entire tracklist which features song titles such as “end of an era,” “french exit,” "falling forever,” and “happy for you.” Peep the entire list below.
