“I wouldn’t say it’s a crypt,” Sheeran said, explaining that he had a chapel built as a place where he can mourn the people in his life who have died. And on a happier note, also host his friend's weddings there.

When the chapel was being built, Ed came to the realization that he would one day want to be buried there himself so that his daughters, Lyra and Jupiter, would have a place to remember him.

"It’s a hole that’s dug in the ground with a bit of stone over it, so whenever the day comes and I pass away, I get to go in there," the singer explained.

With the losses of his mentor, Michael Gudinski, who passed in 2021, followed by the passing of his best friend, Jamal Edwards, as well as his close friend, Shane Warne, the following year, Ed has been quite candid about his recent dealings with grief and doesn’t view his pre-planned arrangement as macabre, but rather wise.

"People think it’s really weird and really morbid,” he added, “but I’ve had friends die without wills, and no one knows what to do.”
