Allison Janney is celebrating her "most authentic" self by embracing a natural gray hairstyle.
The 61-year-old Academy Award winner showed off her new super short locks on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Tuesday, Today reported.
During the appearance, Janney disclosed why she decided to stop coloring her hair.
"I was in Ohio for most of 2020," she said. "I started ... a big, healthy few inches of gray roots came in and I just decided I wanted to be free from hair color and hair extensions. So this is the most authentic ..."
The “Mom” star later revealed the acting legend who was the inspiration for going gray.
"It started out with just COVID choices, you know. I was in Ohio for five months of the pandemic," she elaborated to People TV. "My natural color started growing in — which is gray. And then I thought, you know, I've always wanted to cut it off and do a Helen Mirren thing. I just wanted to try it."

She added, "I just get very brave with my hair."
Janney isn’t the only star who let their natural gray hair come in during the lockdown.
Talk show host Kelly Ripa posted a photo of her hair progression after lockdown left her unable to highlight her trademark blonde locks.
Last August, actress Tia Mowry also shared a photo of her natural gray hair, saying, “This is me. 42.”
CBS recently announced Janney's long-running sitcom “Mom” will end with the upcoming season 8 finale in May.
The “Mom” series finale will air Thursday, May 6 at 9pm ET/PT on CBS.
