Prince William is speaking out for the first time since his brother, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle sat down with Oprah Winfrey.

The royal has denied that his family is racist, responding to claims made by his brother and his brother's wife in the interview. The Duke of Cambridge commented while visiting a school in east London, when a reporter asked if the royals were a "racist family," reports CNN.

"We're very much not a racist family," Prince William responded.

Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, made several explosive claims about the royal family in the Oprah interview.

Prince William was also asked if he had talked to his brother since the interview, and he responded, "I haven't spoken to him yet but I will do."

Prince Harry shared that there is a strained relationship between himself and his family members, his father Prince Charles and brother Prince William.

In regards to the accusations, Markle shared that the skin tone of their child, Archie, was discussed as an issue before he was born.

Buckingham Palace has since released a statement regarding the accusations.

"The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan," reads the statement. Buckingham Palace released the announcement Tuesday on behalf of Queen Elizabeth.

"The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning," the statement continued. "While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

"Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members," the statement continued.
