Late Browns and Ravens owner Art Modell denied Pro Football Hall of Fame, again

BEREA, Ohio (92.3 The Fan – Art Modell was denied the Pro Football Hall of Fame for a fourth time Wednesday.

Modell did not make it as the coach/contributor finalist for the class of 2023.

In fact, Modell was among those eliminated in the first of three rounds of balloting during Tuesday’s four-hour meeting according to the Hall of Fame.

Former Cardinals and Chargers head coach Don Coryell, who has reached the finalist stage six times, will be considered for induction next year when the class of 2023 is voted on.

Firing two of the greatest coaches of all time in Paul Brown and Bill Belichick, forcing arguably the greatest in the game – Jim Brown – into retirement and moving the Browns out of Cleveland to Baltimore and still having to sell the franchise due to financial troubles aren’t exactly Hall of Fame resume builders.

Modell has previously missed out on the Hall of Fame twice through the regular selection process and in 2020 he was in consideration for the centennial class but not selected.

Modell passed away in September 2012.

Former Browns team president as well as Packers and Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren made it to the third vote Tuesday before Coryell was selected.
