CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – DJ Khaled will headline a “star-studded lineup of musical artists” for All-Star Saturday night the NBA announced Tuesday along with the participants for the Skills, Dunk and 3-Point contests.
The league plans to announce the rest of the musical artists that will perform with Khaled next week.
“Have you seen what happens on All-Star Saturday night?” Khaled said in a promotional video released by the league as part of the announcement.
“Greatness, it’s in the air. We’re not just talking big stars, we’re talking All-Stars.”
All-Star Saturday night, which will be held February 19 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, features the Skills Challenge, 3-point contest and Slam Dunk contest.
The Skills Challenge will feature a new format – three teams of three players who will participate in a four-round competition that tests shooting, passing and dribbling ability.
Jarrett Allen, Darius Garland and Evan Mobley comprise ‘Team Cavs’ against ‘Team Antetokounmpo’ featuring brothers Alex, Giannis and Thanasis Antetokounmpo and ‘Team Rooks’ featuring Scottie Barnes, Cade Cunningham and Josh Giddy.
This marks the first time the Cavs will have participants compete in the Skills Challenge since 2012 (Kyrie Irving) and the fifth time overall (LeBron James in 2006 and 2007, Mo Williams in 2009 and Irving in 2012).
The 3-point contest features Memphis’ Desmond Bane, Luke Kennard of the Clippers, Chicago’s Zach Levine, Portland’s CJ McCullum, Patty Mills of the Nets, Minnesota’s Karl Anthony-Towns, Toronto’s Fred VanVleet and Trae Young of the Hawks.
Four players will compete in the dunk contest – Cole Anthony of the Magic, Obi Toppin of the Knicks, Jalen Green from the Rockets and Juan Toscano-Anderson of the Warriors.
All-Star weekend tips off Friday, February 18 with the All-Star Celebrity Game and Rising Stars mini tournament.
Prior to All-Star Saturday night, an All-Star practice will be held Saturday morning and the NBA x HBCU Classic between Morgan State and Howard University will be played in the early afternoon.
The 2022 NBA All-Star game is Sunday, February 20 at 8 p.m.
