National School Bus Safety Week is October 18th through October 22nd, and OSHP will be highly visible along school bus routes and in school zones to ensure the safety of students.
Troopers are doing this as a reminder for us drivers, students, and school bus drivers of the importance each of us has in making sure our kids are safe.
Drivers approaching a stopped school bus in EITHER direction, are REQUIRED to stop at least 10 feet from the bus while the bus is receiving or discharging students.
When a road is split up into four or more lanes, only the traffic traveling in the same direction as the school bus must stop. That traffic may resume after the bus resumes travel.
