McGraw is always most comfortable on stage. The 34-year-old tells us, “I’m a pretty shy person, I guess, in real… for whatever reason… I’m not shy at all on stage, the more people the better.”
Having released his latest single, “SHE” the artist has been able to perform the new track live as he has hit the road with the JoBro trio. “SHE,” which Jordan wrote at the beach, was inspired by his now-wife, Morgan Stewart. The singer explains that the track is all about attempting to decipher her dreams.
Recently, the crooner also made his late-night TV debut on the Late Late Show with James Corden. “Doing a late-night show performance for me was musical bucket list already on its own,” beamed Jordan. He continued, “but mixed with the fact that we had kind of just started to be able to do things in groups, and a large enough group to be able to go do that performance, it was a whole other level of excitement.”
Focusing on the arrival of his forthcoming EP, McGraw shared the overarching themes fans can expect from the new project. The artist explained, “quarantine for me was an oddly very happy time… I got married, had a baby, we moved into a new house. I just had all of these kinds of big moments happening one right after the other and so, as I was putting a lot of this music together I was just the happiest I’ve ever been.”
The record reflects Jordan’s sunny outlook and embraces the idea of escapism that music often provides. Influenced by bands like Green Day and Blink-182, McGraw has attempted to capture the carefree sonic elements of pop-punk on his new project. For the artist, this record is a nod to not taking things too seriously and a celebration of having fun.
Having just had a daughter and beginning to embark on the Jonas Brothers' national tour, Jordan notes that he and his wife are ready for adventure and ready to bring their baby along with them. The couple plans to instill a love of music into their child and teach her to have a keen sense of adventure.
As the son of Dr. Phil McGraw, Jordan shared that the relationship between him and his father has always been “really easy,” as he has begun to carve a name out for himself in the music industry. “I’m a fan of his and he’s a fan of mine. I’m proud of my dad for doing what he does, and he’s proud of me for doing what I do,” says Jordan.
He adds, “but publically people love to talk s***t… I had a hard time with that for a while… but then I realized that people think it’s as much of a novelty to me as it is to them. If it’s not that they’re going to talk s*** about something else, so I might as well just flip ‘em the bird and keep moving… overall it’s a positive.”
McGraw laughs as he points out the dichotomy of him and his father, saying, “you got this big, bald, mustachey, old man giving advice… and then me screaming ‘f***’ on stage…. you know we have fun with it.”
Having already played shows in Las Vegas with the Jonas Brothers on their arena tour, Jordan has been able to debut live performances of some of his new tracks off his highly anticipated EP. “I had my expectations already, and then I put my first foot out on the stage and I could not help but just smile from ear to ear,” shared McGraw. As the tour continues through the U.S. the singer says he’s just looking forward to that feeling every night.
