On July 28, Kelly Clarkson kicked off her Las Vegas residency called Chemistry, after her most recent post-divorce album. Filled with a plethora of the singer’s songs both past and current, Kelly also added in a few covers, one of which had her holding nothing back in regards to her ex Brandon Blackstock.

While her 95-minute opening show included several of Clarkson’s greatest hits, including “Since U Been Gone” and “What Doesn’t Kill You,” one of the covers she sang was Gayle’s 2022 hit “abcdefu.” However, when Kelly got to the chorus, she decided to switch up and personalize the lyrics, and throw major shade at her ex.

“F*** you, and your dad, and the fact that you got half / and my broken heart, turn that s*** into art / F*** you, and your view from the valley I bought too / Everybody but your dogs, you can all f*** off,” she sang, throwing up a middle finger as the chorus began.

Yasss Queen! Obviously a video of Kelly’s cover went viral as fans shared videos of the performance across all platforms, and hyped up the singer for her scathing lyrical switch up.

For context, Kelly appeared to be singing about her ex-husband, Brandon, whom she married in October 2013 after they began dating in late 2011. As well as his father, Narvel Blackstock, who used to be her manager.

Kelly’s divorce has been the topic of many articles since she filed back in 2020, citing “irreconcilable differences.” After both were declared legally single in August 2021, and a tense legal battle, Kelly and Brandon’s divorce was finalized in March 2022, resulting in Kelly handing Brandon a $1.3 million lump payment, among other financial, housing, and custodial settlements.

As the singer has spoken about publicly numerous times, as part of her healing Kelly “turned that s*** to art,” resulting in her album, Chemistry, which she released in June 2023. The album features songs about relationship red flags, regaining her light after a breakup, and hating love, among other themes.

And while her buzzed about cover obviously isn’t one of her songs, her take on the chorus really made the song her own, so let’s call it “abcdefu (Kelly’s Version).”
