FLETCHER joined some "big, fun FLETCH fam" in Philly while on her "wild" Girl Of My Dreams tour in support of her 2022 debut which, for her, she says is like "a time capsule of the last two years of my life, and the last two years of my growth."
"It kind of picks up both sonically and thematically where I left off with 'The S(ex) Tapes,' which was my last EP," she explains. "The inspiration behind 'Girl Of My Dreams,' and the title for it too is my mom used to have this recurring dream all the time when she was a little girl of a little girl with long, black, curly hair but she could only ever see her from the back. She had it all through up until she was pregnant with me, so she thought that it might be her daughter one day. Then I was born and did not have long, black, curly hair -- so that really became like a metaphor for my life, in the sense that I wasn't exactly what people thought or hoped that I would be. Growing up in a really small, conservative town and knowing that I was queer from a pretty young age, I realized pretty quickly that I wasn't the girl of my mom's dreams."
"It wasn't until I got to college that I was able to explore myself and my sexuality," she continues. "I thought the first girl might be the girl of my dreams, who I wrote 'You Ruined New York City for Me' about. And then I thought the next person, with 'The S(ex) Tapes,' I thought maybe she was the girl of my dreams. Then as I was writing this album, through this music I discovered, I'm like, 'Oh no, b**ch, it's you! You're the girl of your dreams!' That's been kind of the missing link the whole time."
