Disney parks have been closed due to the coronavirus pandemic since the middle of March.
But that didn’t stop one Florida man from spending some time in the happiest place on Earth.
Robert McGuire was arrested for trespassing after authorities found him camping inside Walt Disney World’s Discovery Island, reported News6 Orlando.
Orange County deputies were called to the property, which was shuttered in 1999, after the 42-year-old was spotted roaming the abandoned attraction. At least he was still practicing social distancing!
Police searched for the 42-year-old on foot, helicopter and boat before apprehending him, according to the arrest report, the site noted.
McGuire was allegedly asleep inside one of the island’s buildings and did not hear the deputies call to him via a loudspeaker. Prior to being apprehended, McGuire had spent several days camping inside the deserted property, which he referred to as a “tropical paradise.”
He was arrested and charged with trespassing on posted property. McGuire was also ordered not to return to any Walt Disney World properties.
Discovery Island sits in Bay Lake adjacent to Magic Kingdom. Originally called Treasure Island at its opening in 1974, Disney later renamed it Discovery Island. It closed in 1999 and has since remained off limits to guests and employees.
Earlier this week, a report was revealed detailing the guidelines Disney is looking into establishing once they are able to reopen their parks.
According to Variety, the park will begin allowing visitors back in two phases.
In Phase 1, the parks would be allowed to operate at 50-percent capacity. In Phase 2, operational capacity would be bumped to 75-percent capacity.
The other guidelines seem to adopt best practices used by grocery stores and essential businesses since the coronavirus began spreading.
Since the pandemic is so unpredictable, an exact time-frame for reopening has not been announced.
