The #FreeBritney movement intensified last week when Britney Spears shared an emotional testimony surrounding her 13-year conservatorship. Since her public appearance, Spears has received words of encouragement from several celebrities, the most-recent being her fellow Mickey Mouse Club alum, Christina Aguilera.

Aguilera took to social media to share a thoughtful post regarding Spears’ testimony saying what Spears has endured over the last 13 years is “unacceptable.”
“These past few days I’ve been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through,” Aguilera started her post. “It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish.”
She continued, “To be silenced, ignored, bullied or denied support by those ‘close’ to you is the most depleting, devastating and demeaning thing imaginable. The harmful mental and emotional damage this can take on a human spirit is nothing to be taken lightly.”
Aguilera’s words are powerful, as she has known Britney on a personal level throughout their highly successful careers and knows the toll the entertainment industry can take on someone without the proper support.
Christina rose to fame after the release of her single, “Genie In A Bottle,” in 1998, while Britney soon followed in 2000 with her debut single, “Oops!… I Did It Again”.
“Every woman must have the right to her own body, her own reproductive system, her own privacy, her own space, her own healing and her own happiness,” Aguilera continued her post. “While I am not behind the closed doors of this very layered & personal yet public conversation — all I can do is share from my heart on what I’ve heard, read and seen in the media.”
She continued, “The conviction and desperation of this plea for freedom leads me to believe that this person I once knew has been living without compassion or decency from those in control.”
Aguilera closed her thoughts will well-wishes for Spears’ freedom and happiness to be restored.
“To a woman who has worked under conditions and pressure unimaginable to most, I promise you she deserves all of the freedom possible to live her happiest life,” she wrote. “My heart goes out to Britney. She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world.”
Spears seems to be receiving the support as she recently posted a clip of her enjoying herself on the beaches in Maui.
“More to come … more to share … more to dream … more to hope for … and many more to pray for,” the star wrote in her post. “GOD BLESS YOU ALL !!!! Here’s to Maui!!!!!”
