The biggest box office hits of the 2010s
The biggest movies of the 2010s stand as the highest-grossing movies of all time, easily blasting past the biggest box office successes of the 2000s and the iconic films of the 1990s.
Superhero movies and huge Disney hits fill the list, grossing billions of dollars in blockbuster international releases.
According to ScreenRant with data from Box Office Mojo, here are the biggest box office grossing movies of the 2010s.
10 Black Panther: $1.34 Billion
Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther was an instant sensation among comics fans of color. In a time packed with follow-up titles, the 2018 “Black Panther” turned out to be the highest grossing non-sequel of the entire decade.
9 Avengers: Age Of Ultron: $1.4 Billion
It’s lucky for Marvel that “Age of Ultron” did well. It cost $250 million to produce, though it earned that back and more in just a few weeks, going on to earn $1.4 billion worldwide.
8 Frozen II: $1.45 Billion
The “Frozen” series proved a real hit with fans young and old, so a sequel was almost a given. The 2019 return outing performed as expected, raking in billions of dollars at the international box office.
7 Furious 7: $1.51 Billion
What seemed like yet another movie in the “Fast & Furious” franchise actually blew up in international theaters, pulling in billions of dollars from global audiences over its cinematic run.
6 The Avengers: $1.51 Billion
The original “Avengers” built on the success of individual Marvel superhero films, but the 2012 roundup also gave audiences a taste of the collective might of the money to be wrung from comic book IP.
5 The Lion King: $1.65 Billion
When the original animated “Lion King” made it to the middle of the pack in highest grossing films of the 1990s, it was impressive for the kids movie to bring in $312 million in domestic theaters. That’s nothing compared to the billions the live action remake made just a few decades later.
4 Jurassic World: $1.67 Billion
The original “Jurassic Park” did astoundingly with American filmgoers due to its well crafted story and flashy new CGI. The 2015 follow-up had the CGI at least, which was enough to propel it to number 4 for the decade.
3 Avengers: Infinity War: $2.04 Billion
Everyone saw “Infinity War” when it came out in 2018. The movie, with its shocking ending and huge action sequences, surpassed $2 billion at the international box office.
2 Star Wars: The Force Awakens: $2.06 Billion
“Star Wars” films are a common sight on top grossing lists over the decades. Episode VII did the franchise proud, arriving at number two on the most recent decade of box office juggernauts.
1 Avengers: Endgame: $2.79 Billion
It’s no surprise the climax to the “Avengers” series, which dominated the box office at every turn, should end up at the peak of the 2010s, a decade of film largely defined by the Marvel franchises.
