HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) -- The possibility of J.J. Watt returning to the Texans is not something head coach Bill O'Brien had much interest in discussing Monday, two days after securing another AFC South title and a spot in the playoffs.
Watt was injured in the Texans home game against the Oakland Raiders on Oct. 27 and at the time was believed to be done for the season with a torn pectoral.
Yet in recent weeks, Watt has indicated returning for a playoff run is a serious possibility.
He was placed on the injured list with eight games left in the season, which means the Texans can bring him back as soon as their first playoff game.
When asked Monday about Watt's status, O'Brien said he wasn't ready to discuss it yet, instead focusing on the regular season finale against the Titans on Sunday.
"Obviously with J.J. and everything he's done for our football team, anytime you have a great player that's been out and the rules allow you to bring him back, it'll help your team," O'Brien said.
Last week, defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel also addressed the possibility of Watt returning. He said Watt's impact will depend on what he's able to do, given his lack of football activity in nearly two months.
"Everybody who has an injury, when they get back you have to find out what they can do," Crennel said. "They have to find out what they can do, because with the injury, they haven't had the opportunity to twist and turn, and plant and cut, and get hit on it. So, all of those things have to occur to build up the player's confidence to know that the injury is well and then now, he can turn it loose."
