Astros win three-game opening series against New York Mets

The Astros are winners in their first series of the season after beating the New York Mets 2-1 on Saturday.

Thanks to strong starting pitching performances and a cold New York offense, the Astros were able to limit the Mets to five runs over the three games. Of course, the Astros themselves only scored six runs, but it was enough to get the job done.

Houston and New York traded 3-1 victories on Thursday and Friday before the Astros took the rubber match at Daikin Park on Saturday.

Shortstop Jeremy Peña homered for Houston in the fifth inning. Yordan Alvarez doubled in Isaac Paredes in the sixth.

The Astros resume play Monday at home against the San Francisco Giants.
