Attorney suing Deshaun Watson reiterates 'there will not be a settlement'

(SportsRadio 610) -- The attorney representing 22 women suing Deshaun Watson for sexual assault and harassment is reiterating there will not be a settlement in these cases, at least for now.

Tony Buzbee posted to Instagram on Thursday night responding "to the many queries" his office is getting about the Watson cases.

There has been radio silence in the case for more than a month. Since then, the NFL Draft has come and gone, as well as organized training activities, and training camp is about a month away.

Meanwhile, Watson's status for the 2021 season remains unclear. He does not want to play for the Texans, but his trade potential seems to rely on whether he'll be placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List, which amounts to paid leave, if he'll be suspended; neither or both.

Texans general manager Nick Caserio said on Payne and Pendergast earlier this week the team would try to make the best decision, whatever that decision is, as more information comes in leading up to training camp.

If Buzbee is claiming publicly there will be no settlements anytime soon, then it stands to reason everyone else is operating with the understanding these cases will be open and hanging over Watson's head at least through the 2021 season.

So, the question is how does this impact the league investigation and subsequent trade market.

Sean Pendergast and former Pro Bowl offensive lineman Wade Smith reacted to Buzbee's comments this morning.
