Texans agree to terms with former Eagles safety Reed Blankenship

The Texans' first major acquisition in free agency this offseason is former Philadelphia Eagles safety Reed Blankenship.

Multiple outlets reported Monday that the Texans and Blankenship agreed to a three-year, $24.75 million with $16.5 million guaranteed. Blankenship fills an opening at safety along with Pro-Bowler Calen Bullock.

Blankenship went undrafted out of Middle Tennessee in 2022. He made a name for himself with the Eagles after replacing C.J. Gardner-Johnson at the end of the 2022 season, when Gardner-Johnson was placed on injured reserve with a lacerated kidney. The two paired as Philly's Super Bowl-winning safety tandem in 2024.

So it's fitting Blankenship would be the Texans' new answer after their failed Gardner-Johnson experiment in 2025, when he played in just three games before he was released.

Blankenship joins arguably the best defense in football, though the Eagles once made a case for the claim. Along with Blankenship and Bullock, they have cornerbacks Kamari Lassiter and two-time All-Pro Derek Stingley Jr. as their outside corners and Jalen Pitre as their nickel defender.

And of course, they also boast the most impressive pass rushing duo in football with edge rushers Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter, who also recently agreed to an extension with the team.
