HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) -- When Deshaun Watson met with media members last week, he indicated a priority this season would be taking his game to another level by spreading the ball around to his variety of weapons.
Whether it's go routes to Will Fuller, Brandin Cooks and Kenny Stills, or crossing patterns to Randall Cobb and Keke Coutee, or terrorizing defenses with Duke and David Johnson out of the backfield, Watson should have plenty of options.
The improvements Watson needs to make in his fourth season, and the first without All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, have more to do now with how he commands the offense and adjusts to his new personnel and play caller.
Watson, according to head coach and general manager Bill O'Brien, is already playing at a high level. He's only thrown one interception at training camp this month -- an underthrown ball intended for tight end Jordan Akins, but picked off by safety A.J. Moore with pressure from Charles Omenihu.
"He's got a real good grasp of our offense," O'Brien said Thursday during a Zoom conference. "He's got a real good grasp of the protections. He's throwing the ball accurately, on time, making good decisions in the passing game. We've thrown a ton of passes and I think he's only thrown one interception the whole camp. He's understanding. The ball's coming out in a good rhythm and he just works hard to get better every day.
"He takes it very seriously. His meetings, he's very focused. The walk-thrus, he's very focused. And he looks at each practice like a game. He tries to get better every day, so he's doing a great job."
