Texans CEO Cal McNair: 'Maybe it's time we do try some new things'

HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) -- Texans CEO Cal McNair wanted to keep the energy positive when he spoke on all of the franchise's recent changes.

They will enter the 2021 season with a new head coach, general manager (not the same person this time), team president and likely a new quarterback.

All of this coming on the heels of a 4-12 season, with roster and staff turnover that seems unprecedented.

Not many outside of the organization expect the Texans to be very good in 2021, but McNair likes what he sees from rookies GM Nick Caserio and head coach David Culley.

"It's an exciting time," McNair told reporters Monday at a charity golf event for the Houston Texans Foundation.

"I see a lot of positive energy, a lot of good things happening. Traditionally we haven't had a lot of turnover, so maybe it's time we do try some new things, and we're going to do that. To watch them work together, it's been a lot of fun. But yeah, you see a lot of joy and a lot of camaraderie and working together at a high level. So, it's very gratifying."

The Texans are aiming to sellout NRG Stadium this season, anticipating full capacity crowds. On the business side, McNair and first-year team president Greg Grissom are optimistic.

McNair said the NFL and a lot of other teams expect it will take two years to recover from the coronavirus' impact on business.

"So, that's kind of in the back of our mind but that'll take care of itself," McNair said. "We're excited to get the fans back in the stadium. We're having a lot of great news on season tickets and all that kind of stuff rolling in. All of that's going really well.

"It's hard to predict how your season will go. Sometimes a team you're playing will be on a hot streak and sometimes a ball will not bounce your way, but sometimes it will. We'll go out expecting to win every game, and we'll play that way. We'll play hard as a team. I expect them to play hard, to play fundamental, to make us proud and we'll take whatever wins come our way."
