HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) -- Texans second-year offensive lineman Max Scharping is back from the reserve-COVID-19 list and expected to play Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

Senio Kelemete replaced Scharping earlier in the season as the Texans' starter at left guard, but suffered a concussion in their 27-25 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday.

Kelemete has not participated in practice this week as part of the concussion protocol.

Texans offensive coordinator Tim Kelly said Thursday he has high hopes for Scharping when they travel to Cleveland.

“Hopefully he comes out and has a huge game because obviously that means our offensive line is playing well," Kelly said. "That’s going to be huge. He’s looked great. He’s come out – obviously, with Max he was preparing and studying and doing things along those lines even though it may not have been all in the building. Physically, he’s looked good and he’s getting ready to play. ... hopefully he goes out there and performs at a high level."

Scharping, who started 14 games for the Texans as a rookie last season, tested positive for COVID-19 during the bye week. He was the first Texans player to test positive for the virus this season.

Outside linebacker Jacob Martin tested positive last week. Whitney Mercilus and inside linebacker Dylan Cole had to be withheld from Sunday's game at Jacksonville because they were deemed high-risk close contacts to Martin.

The Texans activated Scharping, Mercilus and Cole on Tuesday.
