HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) -- The Texans were open to making a substantial trade before Tuesday’s deadline, but no one offered anything they could not refuse.
Wide receiver Will Fuller’s name received a lot of traction, but proposed deals to the Green Bay Packers fell through after the two sides could not reach an agreement.
The Texans reportedly wanted no less than a second-round pick, while the Packers were offering no more than a fourth.
“It takes two to tango,” Crennel said Wednesday morning during a virtual press conference. “So when you talk about making a move, you’ve got to have somebody to work with you, or who maybe is in a similar situation and maybe has a player that you think can benefit you.
“I know that we have players who can benefit other people, because we got a lot of action. But I really believe the action came because of our situation -- the coaching change. And people felt like maybe they wanted to get rid of some guys to save money on the salary cap and all of those things. But my concern is this team trying to win games.”
The Texans are 1-6 coming off their bye week and face the AFC South’s lowly Jacksonville Jaguars (also 1-6 and the only team the Texans have beaten this season).
They are also without a first- and second-round pick in 2021, because they traded the picks to Miami last year for left tackle Laremy Tunsil.
Crennel echoed Texans CEO and chairman Cal McNair, who earlier this week expressed optimism about making the postseason, despite unlikely odds.
“I want the players we have trying to win those games. And if those guys are not good enough, then we’re not going to win,” Crennel said. “But I think we have enough talent on this team, that if we play better and play more consistently, then we can win some games.”
