(SportsRadio 610) -- June 1 is a big date on the NFL calendar because salary cap hits from trades and cuts made from here on can be spread out over the next two years.

To simplify that, teams can get deals done a lot easier and fit them under the cap.

For instance, if the Texans tried to trade Deshaun Watson last week, they would've lost a net $5.4 million on the cap. If they trade him after June 1, they would save more than $10 million on the cap and shove some of the money into 2022.

What makes this season so different is all of the discussion about trades for top tier NFL quarterbacks, namely Watson and Aaron Rodgers. Watson is more likely to be traded than Rodgers, given the nature of the situation and now it's more financially feasible.

Of course, it takes another team willing to trade for Watson, and the Texans being happy with the compensation.

Listen to Payne and Pendergast discuss why the date is significance, whether it affects Watson's trade market and how it's all complicated by his legal situation.
