2023’s best and worst states for driving. How did Ohio rank?

WalletHub conducted a survey of the best and worst states for driving. They ranked each state in 31 key metrics for the best commuting conditions, including average gas prices, share of rush-hour traffic congestion and road quality. Research shows traffic congestion cost the average U.S. driver $869 in wasted time during 2022, with an average of 51 hours spent sitting in traffic.

This new report reveals where people deal with more road condition problems or expensive gas than others. Iowa tops the list for best state, scoring a 62.61 out of 100. Tennessee comes in first for lowest cost of vehicle maintenance and ownership, while Massachusetts tops the list for safety. The worst state to drive in goes to Hawaii, which comes in last for cost of vehicle ownership and maintenance and 43rd out of 50 for traffic and infrastructure.
