Hello friends! It's Liz with your annual reminder that you can have a Teal Pumpkin Halloween this year!
Loads of kids in our neighborhoods can’t have a lot of candies due to food allergies or food intolerances. I remember Trick or Treating was always a hard thing when my kid was little and mostly because, people just never really thought about it. I know I didn’t until it hit home.
Putting a Teal Pumpkin on your porch means that your home is one that offers up non-food treats for the little ones along with candy. Stickers, pencils, glow sticks...etc.
With 1 in 13 children living with food allergies and the many more with other dietary restrictions, this makes Halloween safe & fun for all the children coming door to door. It doesn’t have to cost a lot. Most things you can still order for around $15 for over 100 treats with delivery before the weekend! Or you can drop by your local "five & dime". Target and Walmart also participate with select offerings just for this occasion!
Even if you only put one bowl of candy out each year, adding a second one with inexpensive little toys/trinkets really does make a difference for these tiny little humans who just wanna participate.
And truth be told, most kids like seeing a surprise like this. Stickers and pencils are always a hit!
You can get some great ideas on what to offer HERE and you can even put your house on the map to let your neighbors know you're participating.
If you’d like to find out more, you can visit FoodAllergy.org and use the #TealPumpkin hashtag on social media.
It’s honestly just such a simple no brainer. Kind of wish we knew this when we were kids! Because stickers??? Hello!!
Thank you much from this allergy mama!
~Liz
