Glenn's Really Unbiased Review of Six at Playhouse Square

My wife and I had the chance to go see Six at Playhouse Square last night.

It is the story of King Henry The VIII and his six wives, but told from their perspectives.

Kind of an odd premise, but done with a modern flair.

All of them are competing to see who had it worse, and that is mostly accomplished through song.

The show is 80 minutes with no intermission, and let me tell you it goes by in a flash.

There are modern song references, and I get such a vibe of Hamilton when I watched it. A telling of a darker story, but with humor for all of us not born in the 1500's.

If I was to be uber-critical, I would hope that there were more slower songs to capture the emotions that each woman had. Hamilton had a great mix of up-tempo and slower songs. Other than that, it is a fantastic show!

SIX has won 23 awards in the 2021/2022 Broadway season, including the Tony Award for Best Original Score (Music and Lyrics) and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical.

Six is playing at Playhouse Square through September 10th.
