Glenn's Weekly Motivational-Are You Idle?

glenn
Glenn Anderson (Audacy Radio)

Idle time.

Some people have it, some don't.

Some people want it, and some people don't know how to navigate it when they get it.

Our family doesn't do well with idle time.  Does yours?

Do you?

We recently went up to New York City and Philadelphia.  My friend Jeff scored us tickets to see Luke Combs so we decided to spend a few extra days exploring the area.

In NYC, we were mostly gone from sun up to sun down.  That was a warm sun, too.

In Philly, we woke up early and went to bed early..as in early the next morning.  Exhausted, yet feeling accomplished.

There were a few mornings in our cramped and overpriced hotel room that everyone wasn't being their best self.

Idle time consisted of devices, and who is in someone's space, and "Will you stop touching me?".  Oh Bill Cosby, that comedy bit was so on point..

Moving on.

Very few people know how to do idle time.  Even the most put-together enjoy the free time by actually scheduling it.

Because not having a plan invites all the wrong things in your life.  You are anxious, and the anxiety of it all puts you in a bad headspace. You begin to do things you wouldn't normally do, and you find yourself wishing you were...gulp..

Busy.

We scheduled non-stop walks around the city, subway rides, visits to all the major touristy things, not because we're crazy doing it in 100 degree heat with 3 kids, but because the kids were at their best when they were doing something.

Aren't you?

If you feel like you're busy 24/7, be busy 23/7 and schedule that one hour.  Even if you put in your phone that you are gonna read a book, take a walk, just sit...Schedule it in...Don't leave it up to chance, because you'll probably keep working.

If you're retired, sick, alone, counting down the days until summer break is over for the kids..Fill up your schedule.

You don't need spreadsheets..Just a plan.

There is no better feeling than crossing off a to-do list everyday.

Even if day drinking on a Monday and listening to Fast Car happens to be at the top of said list.

All my best as you figure out life and the relationships in it.

XOXO Glenn
