“So and so is rich,” Cooper said to us at dinner last night.
“What makes them rich?” I said.
“Because his parents let him get a game pass and he didn’t need to pay for it,” he said.
And so I asked the question to everyone at the dinner table.
“What makes someone rich?”
Madelyn...“I have a friend who only wears Lululemon.”
Carter…”I have a friend who lives in a mansion.”
So I told them the truth..
Our family is rich.
Loaded.
Well off.
We are rich because we have the young lady in this pic as a daughter.
We are rich because we have 2 boys that know empathy and compassion..and how to wail on each other for no apparent reason.
Being rich has nothing to do with your financial status.
If you’re struggling to make ends meet, it’s always good to take inventory of the things in life that matter and the things that don’t.
Here is my list of what makes you rich:
Your relationship with God
Your marriage
Your kids
Your health
Your parents
Your friends
Good pizza and wine from time to time.
Maybe an Aperol Spritz
Clambakes
Hot water in the shower
A love for Lionel Richie
An appreciation for the new Starbucks commercial
Here is my list of what doesn’t make you rich:
The size of your house
The size of your bank account
The cybertruck you just bought
Your country club membership
Job title
The relationships you keep to ONLY further an agenda
Making work or youth sports that agenda
Your larger than life social media account
A fondness for pizza chains
Liking boxed wine because it says it won awards on the carton
A love for British humor..Quoting Monty Python at parties
Cold plunges
I will be the first to admit we spoil our kids. We wanna give them all the opportunities we didn’t have..
Don’t be afraid to spoil those that you love..But stop when there becomes a sense of entitlement or ungratefulness.
And realize spoiling doesn’t mean buying the latest and greatest. It means spending time with them and listening to them in excess..
Know the difference.
There are alot of ugly and privileged people out there.
Stop throwing money at them to make up for your lack of effort.
How can you be more rich?
Take inventory of your life, pray, and be grateful in the season you’re in.
Also..eat better pizza.
All my best as you navigate life and the relationships in it
XOXO Glenn
