Glenn's Weekly Motivational-How To Go Back To Work

glenn family
Glenn Anderson (Audacy Radio)

Are you back to work yet?

For those of you that never stopped going in, thanks for all you do. Thanks for putting your lives in danger, for your selflessness, and for keeping things going.  Those of us that have been home for more than 433 days, you are probably thinking one of two things:

I can’t wait to go back.

I don’t want to go back.

I’ll be honest, I’m struggling.  I miss my co-workers and boss, I think I forgot how to run the board, and..well, my routine is different now.

For the last 15 months, I have accomplished so much.  I’ve home schooled, I’ve been more active in taking the kids where they need to go, I’ve seen Steph 24/7, I’ve cooked, I’ve cleaned, I became a wine maker, I’ve gained and lost weight, I’ve completed much-needed home projects…and I’ve maintained my ratings and work-related duties…Why go back?

I debated this recently with Steph.  She knows I am not one for change.  I like my routine.  I like my job, family, and purpose just the way it is.  I have a new routine now, and it’s working, and I’m resistant..

“Why are you concentrating on the negative?” she says.

“Because I won’t be able to do the things I’m doing now”, I say.  “No more school pick ups…no more homework..no more making dinners..Madelyn is growing up, I probably picked her up from school for the last time..no more..

“STOP!!!”, she says

“What are you gaining?” she says..Think of how people miss you, think of going out and doing things again, work-dates at Playhouse Square..Concerts, restaurants.. think of..well..normalcy.

And that’s when it hit me.   We have created a fake reality based on our reaction to the pandemic.  We have adjusted within the confines of Covid.  We have sacrificed so much, and replaced what was missing with what is in front of us because we didn’t have a choice.

Don’t get me wrong, all that you and I have accomplished has been valid, but getting back to our lives is something we all need.

Don’t resist..Stop thinking about what you’re giving up, and think about what you’re gaining, and what has been missing for the last year-plus..We are all blessed, if we take the time to figure out in what ways.

All my best as you figure out life and the relationships in it

XoXo Glenn.
