Setting goals=Broken dreams.

Accomplishing goals is simple if you have a long term plan and you're dedicated..but what happens when you get discouraged, or don't see the results quick enough, or it's too hard, or you get distracted or...

That's right...you quit..and make excuses.

"Oh well, there's too many realtors out there anyways, I'm not gonna get my license"

"Yeah, now that I work this new shift I can't get to Planet Fitness..plus, the covid"

"I don't understand financial planning, so I'll just pay someone and hope for the best"

I have found a nifty little secret to accomplishing things and it's called the 1 percent rule.. The meaning behind it is actually the most motivating part:

1 PERCENT IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

A 1 percent raise won't make you rich.

A 1 percent increase in your intelligence won't get you on Jeopardy

A 1 percent increase of hair growth if you're bald?  You're still bald..and probably out a considerable amount of money because you trusted that infommercial.

1 percent doesn't move your cheese....Unless, you keep building on that 1 percent each day.. or week.. or year.  Now I want cheese.

If I can't do pullups, but commit to trying 1 percent more than I did the day before, I am going to eventually do pullups and look like Tony Horton.

If I don't know how to ride a unicycle, but commit each day to trying one percent more than the day before, I will eventually join a local chapter of unicycle enthusiasts. (Or start one at least).

If I read 1 percent of the Bible each day, imagine how much I would've read after a year?

1 percent is nothing.

And here's the beautiful thing.  Committing to that ever-achievable 1 percent growth each day and knocking it out of the park will motivate you to up it to 2 percent, and 5 percent..and maybe 20 percent, because you're on fire!

I have been upping my crunches I do each day by 5.  I started with 100 and now I've doubled that pretty quickly.  Unfortunately, this habit started because I was spending too much time crunching on things I shouldn't have.  But, I'm committed to small wins each day, instead of setting a goal that can be discouraging if the results aren't quick enough.

Put 1 percent of each dollar you make into a hedge fund...and see how big your hedges get.

Put forth 1 percent more effort into your relationship each day, and see if you're just as irritated that your spouse doesn't get you anymore.

1 PERCENT IS NOTHING!

All my best as you figure out life and the relationships in it  XOXO Glenn
