Glenn's Weekly Motivational-The First Day of School

glenn
Glenn Anderson (Audacy Radio)

I have a love/hate relationship with the first day of school for my kids.

As a parent, I selfishly want them around forever, but I know that would get creepy when they're 30..and they would be demanding self centered humans that scream to Steph "MOM, THE MEATLOAF”

But I still get incredibly sad, and the house gets incredibly quiet, and all those poems about hoping the teachers treat them well really get to me.

I stare out the window as the bus leaves, just like our dog does..but he just misses his treats and I'm...well, I'm thinking of when I will go through this parent ritual for the last time.

And I cry.

And then I pick myself up and treat the day like it's January 1st.

In my head, it's New Years day without the leftover champagne bottles on the counter and cold rubbery shrimp in the fridge.

It's the chance to refocus and reprioritize the things I couldn't do in the summer or even the last 16 months.

It's the chance to find new routines and commit to my health. It's the opportunity to reconnect with friends, it's the chance to try new recipes.

AND..it's also about establishing new routines for the kids, too. It's about getting them committed to their own health and making their own lunches (except for Fiestada day at school)...It's about earlier bed times so I can remember I have a wife and not just someone's mother in the house.

Fiestadas....

Kids going back to school doesn't all of a sudden give you a bounty of free time or really any more time, but it does give you a kick in your trousers and a spring in your step to think differently.

Just think, if malt beverage companies didn't think differently, or do zomething different, Zima would've never been invented.

And that my friends, is as motivating as it gets.

All my best as you figure out life and the relationships in it

XOXO
