Something hit me hard this past week...
I took a different route into work..I took the long way. I went down side streets and I saw things I don't normally see..I had a few extra minutes and thought why not?
I saw downtown Cleveland from the shoreway versus I-71. The city looked different..and bigger...I immediately got nervous..
"I have to broadcast to this huge city"..."Everyone is listening"...It overwhelmed me and I immediately felt small and insignificant..but it was also strangely exciting!
That feeling happened because I changed my perspective. There are numerous books that tell you to change your way of thinking, but this was the first time my thinking changed by what I was seeing visually.
When I go to work at the same time, same route, same roads, same parking garage...I don't see the big picture. I take it all for granted, but not in a selfish way. I know what I GET to do versus what I HAVE to do (another script quote)... but I get used to it...are you used to your life and bored?
CHANGE YOUR PERSPECTIVE!
No matter what you do in life, if you look at it differently you might appreciate it more.
Attitude equals gratitude is probably on a plaque somewhere inside Olde Time Pottery, but the real world implementation is a bit more difficult unless you seek it out.
If you're married, try looking at your spouse like someone single might...Maybe even ask your single friends what they find attractive about your spouse (do this before the wine)
If you work, ask your unemployed friends what they're looking for in a job and see if perhaps you are luckier than you think.
If you're rich, befriend someone who doesn't drive a Tesla and doesn't have more than one address...Ask them what makes them happy.
You can go through the motions and act appreciative and say you're appreciative, but really..are you?
Talk to people on the other side of your perspective to gain insight...And make sure you offer that insight to others that might struggle with the day to day..this life is not all about you.
We are all small, until we realize we are a large part of this world.
Your day to day challenges are not much different than mine.
Your significance is on par with everyone you are jealous of...
Is it possible that by changing your perspective, you would be winning instead of losing in this moment?
How might your attitude change if you felt you were a contributor instead of a taker? ...There's only one way to find out...
All my best as you figure out life and the relationships in it XOXO Glenn
