Juneteenth is now officially a federal holiday, a day to celebrate and recognize the official end of slavery in the United States - when news of their freedom finally reached slaves in Texas and other southern states. Cleveland's Juneteeth Freedom Fest includes live music, arts, vendors and fireworks. It's a free event at Mall C in downtown Cleveland from noon to 10pm.
The Rock Hall has outdoor performances by Djapo Cultural Arts Institute and more from noon -8pm.
Juneteeth BluesFest at Lorain's Lakeview Park on West Erie Ave from 3-7 features live music and a great day at the beach.
The Cuyahoga River Rally has live music, tours and more at Hart Crane Park from 12:30-5pm and is free.
The Cleveland Public Library and surrounding branches has poetry readings, documentaries and more. There are also virtual events happening thru the day.
