Fame came on hard and fast for actor Ed Helms.
Speaking with Conan O’Brien on his podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend,” Helms said his starring role in the 2009 hit comedy “The Hangover” caused him severe anxiety about his life and career.
“It was a tornado of fame and a lot of buffeting,” he said about starring in the movie and its aftermath.
While he had been on “The Daily Show” and “The Office” Helms said “The Hangover” fame was at a “whole new level.”
“I really was reeling a lot of the time, like in the aftermath of ‘The Hangover’… I was getting scripts for all these different kinds of projects. ‘Like what do I do? I dunno.’ I was kind of spinning out and panicking about different things,” he told O’Brien.
“One of the craziest things about a massive jump into fame like that, and what I think people who have never dealt with that or been close to it just can’t understand, is the just total loss of control of your environment,” he continued.
Helms was last seen onscreen in the Peacock streaming series “Rutherford Falls” and as a voice on the Netflix animated series “Big Mouth.”
