Gavin MacLeod, 'Love Boat' and 'Mary Tyler Moore' star, dies at 90

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Actor Gavin MacLeod, best known for his roles in “The Love Boat” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” has died at 90.

MacLeod died early Saturday morning at his home in Palm Desert, California, his nephew, Mark See, told TMZ. His death was confirmed by his ex-wife, Joan Devore.


The cause of his death wasn’t immediately known.

MacLeod famously played Captain Merrill Stubing on "The Love Boat" and Murray Slaughter on 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show."

One of his first regular television roles was on the '60s series "McHale's Navy."

He would go on to appear in a slew of programs including "Hawaii Five-O," "Hogan's Heroes," "Perry Mason," "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," "The King of Queens," and "That '70s Show," among a long list of others.

He's survived by his wife Patti Kendig, four children and grandkids.
