When you know it's real.
Supernatural TV series stalwart, Ian Somerhalder (“Lost,” “The Vampire Diaries,” “V Wars”), recently disclosed that he got himself in some serious debt. But in the “Some Guys Have All The Luck” department, the actor was able to inch his way away from debtor’s prison with the help of his wife, "Twilight" actress Nikki Reed.
In a post that Somerhalder shared on Instagram, the actor explained that tried his hand at being an entrepreneur and ended up getting himself into significant debt while working on “The Vampire Diaries” in 2014.
"I invested heavily, I made huge personal guarantees to banks," started the caption to the post, which featured a photo Somerhalder and Reed. "However due to greed and fraud within that company and fraudulent activities from our biggest customer, not to mention the temporary collapse of the oil and gas industry - I was left in an EIGHT- FIGURE hole."
Beyond the bank account sickness, Somerhalder says he landed in the hospital four times in two years due to stress related to, well, an EIGHT-FIGURE debt.
In the caption, he hailed Reed as his savior. Without going into even more gruesome details, Somerhalder credits Reed with dragging him out of the financial hell.

"This woman here decided that she didn’t want to see her husband ruin his body/mind/spirit,” said Somerhalder, “and pulled up her bootstraps and got down in the trenches assembling a team to get to the negotiating table to find a way out. She devoted her life to getting me out of that mess and it almost killed her along the way. I am where I am BECAUSE of this woman."
The feeling was already mutual, as Reed posted her own glowing Instagram gush back in December, calling Somerhalder, "The most creative, certifiably genius, deepest thinker of anyone I have ever known with the most giving spirit."
After only a four-month engagement, the couple were married in 2015 and seem to be bucking the beautiful Hollywood people quickie marriage tradition. Listen to how else Somerhalder is doing on this “I Hate Talking About Myself” podcast from 2020.
