The song was first discovered by a popular New York City DJ, Kamins, after Madonna persuade him to play the demo during one of his sets. After seeing an overwhelmingly positive reaction to the to the tune, Kamis connected Madonna to Michael Rosenblatt of Warner Bros., which eventually led to a two-song deal with Sire Records, owned by Warner Music Group.

Dance clubs continued to play a large part in the success of the song as clubs across the country played the music video, which was shot at New York’s Paradise Garage. The video was fans’ first glimpse of Madonna, who created much mystery not being featured on the single artwork.

The original track was part of her debut album, Madonna, and a re-mix version is now available and included on her Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones remix album.

“Everybody” may have not been the Queen of Pop’s biggest hit, but it is surely the one that opened the floodgates to one of the largest success stories in music.
