A mix of retail expansion, community events and international planning is shaping a busy start to April in metro Atlanta.
A free grocery giveaway is set for Thursday morning at a Kroger location in Lawrenceville, with organizers urging residents to arrive early as demand is expected to be high. The event begins at 10 a.m. and comes as many households continue to seek relief from rising food costs.
In retail news, Wayfair has opened its second-ever brick-and-mortar store in the United States — and its first in Georgia. The new location, situated at The District at Howell Mill, spans approximately 150,000 square feet and features furniture, home décor, appliances and an in-store café known as “The Porch.” The opening marks a significant step for the online retailer as it expands into physical spaces.
Meanwhile, Atlanta officials are preparing for a global spotlight as the city gets ready to host matches during the upcoming FIFA World Cup. The city is expected to receive tens of millions of dollars from a $625 million federal allocation distributed among 11 U.S. host cities. The funding, provided through Federal Emergency Management Agency, will support security and infrastructure planning ahead of the international event.
Closer to home, residents are gearing up for “404 Day,” a celebration of Atlanta’s iconic area code held annually on April 4. Events include a 5K race benefiting local youth programs, family activities at Children’s Museum of Atlanta, and a parade along Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta.
With warm, mostly sunny weather expected, city officials anticipate strong turnout across events, underscoring a vibrant and active start to the spring season.
