Memorial Day Weekend is here and the official start of Summer! Atlanta is buzzing with events to honor those who served and kick off the summer season. Whether you're looking for patriotic tributes, vibrant festivals, classic attractions, or unique outdoor adventures, check out my 2025 guide to Memorial Day Weekend 2025.

Honoring Our Heroes

Alpharetta: The City of Alpharetta and the Rotary Club of Alpharetta will host Alpharetta's Memorial Day Tribute on May 26 from 9:00-10:15 AM at Alpharetta City Hall, located at 2 Park Plaza. This free event will include an invocation, the National Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance, and a keynote address.
Roswell & Dunwoody: Keep an eye out for local ceremonies and tributes in Roswell and Dunwoody, often held at city halls or veterans' memorials, providing solemn opportunities to reflect and remember.


Festivals and Events Galore: Get ready for some serious fun with a lineup of diverse festivals and events.

ATL Jazz Festival in Piedmont Park: One of the nation's largest free jazz festivals, the Atlanta Jazz Festival returns to Piedmont Park from Saturday, May 24 through Monday, May 26. Enjoy free performances from a fantastic lineup of jazz artists all weekend long, with acts starting at 1:00 PM daily. Bring a blanket, browse the Artist Market, and enjoy food and beverage vendors.
Stone Mountain Park: Head to Stone Mountain Park for a four-day Memorial Day Weekend event, May 23-26. Experience family-friendly attractions, live entertainment, and the nightly American Drone and Light Show, featuring new fire drones and a patriotic salute to the troops with an extended fireworks finale. Discounts are often available for military personnel.
MomoCon: For fans of Japanese anime, American animation, comics, video games, and tabletop games, MomoCon 2025 runs from Thursday, May 22 to Sunday, May 25 at the Georgia World Congress Center. This four-day convention promises panels, tournaments, live performances, and an exhibit hall buzzing with vendors and artist showcases.
Alpharetta Arts StreetFest: Immerse yourself in creativity at the Alpharetta Arts StreetFest on Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Located at The Grove in Wills Park (behind the Alpharetta Community Center at 175 Roswell Street, Alpharetta, GA), this free festival will showcase over 100 artists from around the country.
GA Renaissance Festival: Step back in time at the Georgia Renaissance Festival in Fairburn, which runs every Saturday and Sunday, plus Memorial Day Monday (May 26), through June 1, 2025. Enjoy jousting, live entertainment, artisan crafts, and medieval delights from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM.

True ATL Staples: No trip to Atlanta is complete without experiencing its iconic attractions.

Zoo ATL: Visit Zoo Atlanta for a wild adventure! On Saturday, May 24th, kick off your Memorial Day weekend with "Brew at the Zoo," an after-hours beer festival from 5:30-9:00 PM (VIP entrance at 4:30 PM). Sample beers from over 30 breweries, enjoy live music, yard games, and animal viewing. This event is 21+ only.
GA Aquarium: Dive into the wonders of the deep at the Georgia Aquarium. While it's a popular spot, be aware that Memorial Day Weekend (May 24-25) is a blackout date for Aqua Passes, so plan accordingly if you have one.
World of Coca-Cola: Quench your thirst for knowledge and history at the World of Coca-Cola. Explore the fascinating story of this global beverage, including the new "Coca-Cola Stories" exhibit, which features hundreds of artifacts and interactive displays, and a 1939 delivery truck photo op.
Six Flags Over GA: Get your thrills at Six Flags Over Georgia! The park officially kicks off its summer season on Friday, May 23. This Memorial Day Weekend (May 23-26), Six Flags Over Georgia is hosting Military Appreciation Days, offering free park admission for active military personnel and veterans, and discounted tickets for up to six friends and family members purchased online. Hurricane Harbor Atlanta, the in-park water park, also opens for the season on Saturday, May 24.

Strawberry Picking: Experience the simple joy of picking fresh strawberries! Many local farms in the Atlanta area offer u-pick opportunities. Southern Belle Farms in McDonough is a popular choice, and while their main picking event was May 18, their market is often open with fresh produce. Check local farm websites for their Memorial Day Weekend hours and availability.
Visit GA's Many State Parks: For nature lovers, Georgia's state parks offer endless opportunities for walks, hikes, and cookouts. Escape the city bustle and enjoy the tranquility of the outdoors. Some parks even have special events like campfires and s'mores for the holiday weekend, such as the Memorial Day Weekend Campfire and S'mores at George L. Smith State Park on Friday, May 23.
