Anita Baker, was born January 26, 1958, Toledo, Ohio, U.S. Baker's incredible talents first appeared when she sang in the church choir in Detroit, where she grew up. Despite her family's plan for her, she dropped out of community college to pursue a career as a singer, performing in nightclubs, and joined the funk band, Chapter 8, with whom she toured for many years. and recorded an album that included the song "I Just want to be your girl." Disappointed struck when the band was dropped from their label, Baker did not want to perform again.
In 1983, Baker was back in the business and signed by Beverly Glen Records, she created her solo album, The Songstress, the album sold over 300,000 copies and recorded, which topped the charts for over a year. Anita made a quick switch to Elektra, where she worked as an executive producer on her next album, Rapture (1986), selling two Grammy Awards and over five million copies, including two popular songs, "Sweet Love" and "You Bring Me Joy".
During this time Baker also toured with Luther Vandross and released two more albums, "Giving You The Best I Got" and "Compositions. Both albums secured her Grammy's. Baker took a brief hiatus in the early 1990s and by 1994 she was back in the studio creating her next "Rhythm Of Love". In 1996 Baker signed with Atlantic Records.
Baker again took a break from music and wouldn't return to performing until 2002. By 2004 she released My Everything and a holiday album the following year. In 2012, Baker wrote the song "Recently". The song received a Grammy nomination, but Baker was silent following the release. Her most recent work included her farewell tour in 2018.
