
Janet Jackson was born on May 16, 1966 in Gary, Indiana, USA. She is the youngest of nine siblings in the famous Motown Jackson family. Janet Jackson turned her family's success into an independent career that included recording, television and film. She made regular appearances in the 1970s television comedy series Good Times and later as a teenager on the dance-based series Fame.

After recording a minor debut in 1982 and a second album in 1984, Jackson paved her own path, creating her own style and develop her influential voice. She resurfaced in 1986 with her groundbreaking record Control, which featured five Rhythm and Blues chart-topping singles, including two top 10 pop hits, "What Have You Done for Me Lately" and "Nasty." Her fierce independence struck a chord, and Jackson rose to a level of stardom rivaling her brother and pop sensation Michael Jackson.
Her collaboration with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produced bold, powerful and incredible music that exemplified the influence and power of dance and pop music in 1989. Janet Jackson returned in 1989 with her unique work, Rhythm Nation 1814. The album released just seven Top Ten songs, including "Miss You Much", "Escape" and "Love Will Never Do (Without You"). Jackson's worldwide success and acclaim with her album Janet in the 1990s. (1993), Design Decade (1995) and Velvet Rope (1997).
Between the release of All for You (2001) and Damita Jo (2004), Jackson found herself at the center of a debate and criticism with a "wardrobe malfunction" (some claimed it was accidental and others claimed it was premeditated) caused during her live performance at the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show.
Her following albums include 20 Y.O. (2006) and Disciplines (2008). Labeled as her comeback album, Unbreakable (2015) was used by modern electronic systems to enhance the velvety vocals that made Jackson an R&B star. In 2019, Jackson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In addition to her incredible musical career, Jackson also had a successful acting career. Her debut movie was Poetic Justice with Tupac Shakur. Her later film credits include Why Do I Get Married? (2007) and its sequel, Why Did I Get Married too? (2010), both written and directed by Tyler Perry. She also appeared in Colored Girls (2010), an adaptation of Natozke Shang 's 1975 play Girls of Color Contemplating Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf.
