More Georgia students are heading back to classrooms as another wave of school districts begins the new academic year, while officials remind families about school safety, authorities investigate a fake health inspector situation and coffee chains prepare for the return of a popular fall tradition.
Students in 12 additional Georgia school districts, including Gainesville City Schools, Marietta City Schools and Paulding County Schools, returned to school Tuesday. As students settle into new routines, some districts are making changes aimed at improving the classroom experience.
Marietta City Schools is taking steps to reduce screen time for younger students by limiting the use of Chromebooks and keeping digital learning to a minimum through fifth grade. The district says the goal is to create a balance between technology and traditional learning methods.
Officials are also reminding drivers to stay alert around school buses. Passing a stopped school bus in Georgia can result in a $1,000 fine, and many buses are now equipped with stop-arm cameras designed to capture drivers who illegally pass while children are entering or exiting.
Meanwhile, DeKalb County residents are being warned about a man accused of pretending to be a health inspector for online content. The individual, who reportedly uses the name “Agent Black,” has been creating videos for social media attention. Officials stress that impersonating a health inspector is illegal and remind businesses and residents to always request a valid photo ID before allowing anyone claiming to be an inspector access.
