Dear Moms,
Do you ever open your mouth and your mother comes out?! HA! I sometimes sound just like her! I think it's inevitable that we are deeply influenced by our mothers - in likeness, in temperament, in values and in the way we speak...
As a Mom myself, I have been reflective lately on who I am and how I am influencing my daughters. When they grow up and "their mother comes out" of their mouths, what will it sound like? Will it be encouraging and positive? Will it reflect the life I hope that they are living? Will they use respectful language and have deep empathy for others? Will they guard their hearts from dangerous influences? Will they feel confident in their bodies? Will they sound optimistic? Will they be brave?
As moms, our influence is stronger than we realize. How can we be intentional every day about who we are, knowing what a profound impression we are making on our children? So much so, that they become a direct reflection of us.
This Mother's Day, I celebrate the young girls growing up in my house and I'm holding up a clear mirror. Am I who I want them to be as grown ups? In some ways, yes, but if I am very honest with myself, I have more work to do.
