Marietta City Schools are exploring ways to reduce technology use in classrooms as metro Atlanta prepares for one of the city’s biggest World Cup matches and officials consider plans for a new observation deck downtown.
The Marietta Board of Education approved a resolution aimed at identifying strategies to minimize distractions caused by technology and strengthen relationships between students and teachers. District leaders say the effort is intended to encourage more authentic, hands-on learning experiences in the classroom.
School officials are expected to evaluate potential changes that could reduce students’ dependence on personal devices while promoting greater interaction between educators and children.
Meanwhile, Atlanta is preparing to host a highly anticipated FIFA World Cup match between England and Argentina on Wednesday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Atlanta Stadium, and officials have implemented several road closures in the surrounding area to accommodate the influx of fans.
In addition to the match itself, numerous watch parties are being held across metro Atlanta. FIFA Fan Fest at Centennial Olympic Park continues to serve as a central gathering spot, while venues including Underground Atlanta and The Battery Atlanta are also hosting events for supporters unable to attend the game in person.
The World Cup has brought thousands of visitors to the city and generated significant excitement among local businesses and residents.
Elsewhere in downtown Atlanta, developers are considering plans to create a public observation deck at Bank of America Plaza. At 55 stories, the building is the tallest structure in the city and among the tallest skyscrapers in the United States.
If approved, the observation deck would offer visitors panoramic views of Atlanta and could become a major tourist attraction. Additional details about the project, including a timeline for construction, have not yet been announced.
