🍎Sara teaches Kindergarten Special Education and Erin teaches students with moderate/severe intellectual disabilities.
🍎Sara told me “Teaching kids with special needs is a career I love so much. I believe all kids can learn, and it’s my job to get to know them and how they best learn. I have students with low IQs, autism, emotional/behavioral disorders, etc. teaching is not one size fits all, therefore my classroom must be fit for all learners. When we have to pay for our own copy paper, it’s hard to add those things that will really make an impact.”

🍎These teachers first met over 10 years ago. Sara explains her passion. “My mom retired as a special education administrator in Gwinnett County. She instilled a passion in me for giving a voice to those who need it. I tell my parents that yes, I am a teacher first, but I am also a mother. I’m sure you understand having to be an advocate for your child given her medical history. I learned how to be an advocate for my oldest (cardiac). I also use that experience to empathize with being given a path that wasn’t expected… I love the look in a child’s eyes when they accomplish things they didn’t think they could do.”
